Dehradun: In bid to boost Uttarakhand’s rural economy, chief minister Harish Rawat on Friday asked the chief secretary and other top officials to chalk a detailed plan to make rural handicraft and agricultural products available at proper markets and boost sale.
Addressing a workshop on single-window livelihood cooperation scheme organized by Uttarakhand self help groups, CM Rawat said that despite the demand for local products, those who manufacture and produce them, hardly earn enough through the sale of these products.
“Woolens woven in Uttarakhand’s remote and far off areas, are in demand during winters, but those who weave these products miserably fail to get adequate income for the hard work they put in,” said a senior IAS officer in state government.
While Congress has welcomed the move, BJP state leadership has dubbed it as the government’s political drama to woo the voters keeping in view assembly polls in 2017.
